Member of the Month – Fabian — Wädenswil

By WE.FIT

When Fabian turned 30, he wanted to get moving again – but a regular gym wasn’t for him. His buddy Stefano dragged him along to the Early Birds at Wädenswil, and he’s been showing up at 6am ever since. His first WOD? Let’s just say the empty barbell won. But Fabian stuck with it – and that’s exactly what makes him who he is.

He’s someone who loves variety, in training and in life. From wakeboarding on Lake Zurich in summer to skiing in winter – as long as it’s fun, he’s in. In the box, he thrives on the diversity of workouts and lives by a motto that says it all: “Consistency beats motivation.”

Fabian, you’re a staple of our morning crew and you bring the perfect mix of laid-back energy and perseverance. We’re glad Stefano brought you along that first time!

Let’s get to know Fabian a little better …

1. When and how did you get into CrossFit? When I turned 30, I wanted to get physically active again but didn’t want to go to a gym. Stefano took me along to the box for the Early Birds.

2. What was your first thought after your first WOD? Fuck! I’m so unfit … I can’t even do the exercise with an empty bar …

3. What tips would you give someone who’s just starting CrossFit? It’ll be tough, but sticking with it pays off. Especially in the first months, the progress is noticeable and you start getting the hang of the movements.

4. What’s your favourite workout or exercise? I generally like variety during workouts … doing 30 reps of the same thing is kind of boring.

5. And which exercise do you really not like? 😅 Double unders and rope climbs.

6. Which values from CrossFit do you try to carry into everyday life? I believe that every beginning is tough and those who stick with it get rewarded. As the saying goes: “Consistency beats motivation.”

7. What motivates you to show up even on tough days? Since I always come at 6am, I don’t know yet if the day will be tough. ;-) I think if I trained in the evening, I’d cancel more often on hard days.

8. What’s part of your daily routine outside of training? After waking up, I drink a glass of water. Other than that, I don’t really have set routines.

9. What makes you really proud in life – outside of sport? My own little family and my friends. I have quite a lot of what you’d call the truly important things in life.

10. What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Anything that’s fun: from wakeboarding in summer to skiing in winter, pretty much everything is on the table.

Fabian, thank you for showing up every morning at 6 and bringing exactly the kind of energy that makes the start of the day better for everyone. Your motto “Consistency beats motivation” – you live it, and it shows. Keep it up, Early Bird!
