Member of the Month: Elvin Diaz — Wädenswil
By WE.FIT
Meet Elvin — our Member of the Month in Wädenswil!
After 8 to 10 hours at work, Elvin walks through the door and the box flips a switch — smiles, conversation, sweat, reset. That’s what training means to him: community first, the rest follows. His progress in gymnastics and weightlifting speaks for itself, and he’s not done yet — competitions are on the radar this year.
Thank you for being part of the Wädi family, Elvin!
Let’s get to know Elvin a little better…
1. What motivates you to train regularly?
Elvin: The main reason that drives me to train is the community. After 8 to 10 hours of work, arriving at the box and always being greeted with a smile, being able to talk and disconnect, makes a huge difference. On top of that, exercising helps me stay healthy and feel better both physically and mentally.
2. What’s been your proudest moment at the box so far?
Elvin: The moment I’ve felt most proud was when I realised how much I’ve learned — gymnastics and weightlifting. Thanks to the support and technique our coaches teach us, I’ve improved a lot. Being able to train and connect with teammates who have elite-level experience and have competed abroad is also very motivating and inspiring.
3. Do you take part in competitions, or are you interested in doing so?
Elvin: I have participated in very few competitions, but this year I’m more interested in taking part in more events, even though I know it requires a lot of sacrifice and discipline.
4. What do you do to unwind when you’re not training?
Elvin: When I’m not training, I like to go for walks to clear my mind. I also really enjoy dancing, and of course, I try to spend as much time as possible with my family.
5. What does the community at our box mean to you?
Elvin: A year ago, I saw the community simply as a place to train. However, since 2025 the box has become part of my daily life, and it feels like family.
6. If you could change one thing at the box right now, what would it be and why?
Elvin: I would like to have more space available for Open Gym.
7. If you had to design a beginner’s WOD for everyone, what movements would you include and why?
Elvin: I’d love to design a beginner-friendly WOD in a team format, where beginners can train alongside more experienced athletes — not to compete, but to show them how great CrossFit is. I’d also have the coach organise the teams so people can get to know each other better and strengthen the sense of community within the box. Movements would be rowing, jump rope (single or double unders), burpees, and cleans — complete exercises that are easy to scale.
8. What’s the funniest thing that’s ever crossed your mind during a WOD?
Elvin: One of the funniest moments is when, in the middle of a WOD, the music suddenly stops and right in that silence an “unexpected noise” happens during a lift. Those moments where you don’t know whether to laugh or just carry on — but everyone remembers them.
9. What superpower would you like to have?
Elvin: The best superpower would be instant recovery and unlimited energy — never getting tired. That way burpees wouldn’t feel so scary.
10. What’s your personal “happy place” or a place where you instantly relax?
Elvin: My favourite way to relax is walking in nature, and often by the sea.
Thank you so much for this great interview, Elvin!
We’re so glad to have you in the Wädi community. Your energy, your honesty about why you keep coming back, and the way you lift everyone around you make this box better. Keep showing up — and we’ll see you on a competition floor soon!
