Duo of the month – Michi & Jan

Duo of the Month – Michi & Jan!

Let’s be honest… do these two even need an introduction? Everyone knows them. Everyone hears them. And let’s face it – without Jan & Michi, the lunchtime class just wouldn’t be the same.

This legendary duo brings more energy, more laughs, and definitely more gossip than anyone else in the box. Whether they’re chatting their way through half the AMRAP during the “warm-up” or testing the coaches’ patience by completely ignoring the whiteboard – they do it all with charm, cheeky humor, and absolutely zero guilt.

But here’s the truth: we LOVE them exactly for that. Their humor, their friendship, and the way they light up every room (while driving every coach to the edge of madness) are exactly what makes our community so special.

Jan & Michi – thank you for being so incredibly funny, entertaining, and 100% unapologetically yourselves. WE.FIT wouldn’t be the same without you – and we wouldn’t want it any other way!

Please never stop talking. (Okay… maybe just for a minute during the briefing.)

We love you!

1. How did you two actually meet – and how did it happen that you started training together at WE.FIT?

Michi: We met about 10 years ago at CH Horgen on Tödistrasse. Jan had the same “skills” as me and won me over immediately with his humor. Since then, our performance hasn’t improved much, and all our other training partners have left me. So now Jan’s the only one left…

Jan: At first, I didn’t notice him at all – probably because of his height. But eventually, I heard this friendly voice and looked down into those big round eyes for the first time. I always told my girlfriend: “Love at first sight doesn’t exist,” but now I know – it does.

Where: Horgen Oberdorf

When: 10 years, 53 days, 12 hours and 23 seconds ago

Why WE.FIT: Horgen got too expensive, then we moved together to CrossFit Wädenswil, which later became WE.FIT

2. What motivates you about each other in training – and are there moments when you really push each other?

Michi: The motivation is simple: if Jan comes to class, I go too. I can’t let him get better than me. Pushing each other is a bit one-sided – if I finish the WOD first, I can really cheer him on. If he finishes first, he’s usually lying on the floor like he’s dead.

Jan: Michi always surprises me. Sometimes he disappoints me, and suddenly I’m amazed again – at how bad he is.

I think this constant disappointment actually motivates us to keep reaching new lows. But we still have fun and feel like champions – even though we’re always found at the very bottom of the leaderboard. That totally delusional self-confidence is what connects us.

But to be fair, Michi has his golden moments, especially in weightlifting – and I’m always there to cheer him on.

3. What makes the lunchtime class so special for you – and what can never be missing?

Michi: Lunchtime is a less ambitious class, where the focus is more on fun and movement. The real champs train in the morning or evening… or just do Open Gym.

Must-haves:

  • Jan

  • A tough WOD

  • Barbells with heavy weights

  • And a post-WOD shake

Jan: You really have to experience it. Mornings are for the overachievers who think it’s super practical to work out at 5 a.m. before work. Evenings are for the ones dragging themselves to the box after a long day. And at lunchtime, it’s all the people you’re not even sure have jobs.

What can’t be missing:

  • Michi – because Michi

  • Sonja – the Duracell bunny

  • Estefania – because blablablabla

  • Mike – godlike

  • Koni – rich and pretty solid at CrossFit

  • Ana – because beautiful

  • Yves – dog owner

  • Flavio – wonderfully colorful

And many more, of course…

4. Is there a favorite song or workout that gets you going when your energy is low?

Michi: My favorite songs don’t really get played – I like it loud and heavy, but it’s not everyone’s taste…

Favorite WODs: Murph, Cindy, and Isabel

Jan: Rock is definitely our common ground. ACDC, Rammstein, and of course King Zebra.

Backstreet Boys and Justin Bieber unfortunately only push me to peak performance. But hey – there’s still hope…

5. If you had to create a challenge for the other, what would it be?

Michi: Challenge for Jan:

  • 1 Mile Run

  • 30 Power Cleans

  • 30 Bench Presses

  • 30 Strict Presses

  • And finally 100 Burpees (just because Burpees are annoying)

Jan: I’m trying to get him to sign up for the Médoc Marathon in France. Anyone else want to join?

6. What’s your favorite post-workout snack or shake?

Michi: Cherry Berry Shake – and a cold beer

Jan: Always a shake. Used to be Weekend Warrior, now Cherry Berry. Not because it tastes better, but because I’m fat and need to lose weight.

7. If you could set a fitness goal together – what would it be?

Michi: Compete at the CrossFit Games as a “Team of 2”

Jan: 2030 Winter Olympics – Pair Figure Skating

8. If you could be coaches for a day – what would your “Signature Class” look like?

Michi: Required participants: Erika and Sonja, all the lunchtime crew, all the coaches, Mufti (for the fun), Koni (for the motivation), Yves (for his nonexistent skills), and Flavio (for the hairstyle).

We’d absolutely rock the Saturday 11:15 a.m. team WOD. Afterwards? BBQ and cold drinks. That’s my perfect coaching day.

Jan: The warm-up would be scrapped and replaced with a PowerPoint about my impressive journey.

My motivational lines would be: “Back pain builds men” or “Always train deep into the pain.”

9. What has been your funniest or most unforgettable moment at WE.FIT?

Michi: The Christmas party with the photo booth.

Jan: My humor is so immature – if someone farts loudly during training, that day becomes legendary for me.

But yes, the Christmas dinner with Michi, Santa, and the crew was definitely a highlight.

10. And finally: What makes you unique as a duo – and what do you think others say about you?

Michi: We’re unique because we can laugh at ourselves and always keep things fun – but we also know how to push hard.

What others probably think: “Wow, 10 years of CrossFit experience – they must be great at everything and always on top.”

Then they quickly realize… not the case.

I do think we add a lot to the fun and good vibes in the box – and we’re always willing to help.

But I’m fully aware that we probably annoy some members and coaches with all our talking…

Jan: Talking with Michi is a form of therapy. Just when you think you’ve already crossed every line, he effortlessly takes you even lower. And unfortunately, that’s exactly the level I love to operate on.

I know not everyone sees that positively. But I have to say – we’re the biggest clowns ourselves and would never intentionally hurt anyone.

Please forgive us.

But I think there are at least a few people who appreciate us.

Thank you so much for this amazing interview!

We’re so happy to have you in our community! Your dedication, humor, and authenticity make WE.FIT even better. Keep going, push your limits – and enjoy every moment, inside and outside the box!
